OUR PASTOR

Bishop James Bishop was born in Mobile, Alabama to Erving and Mary Bishop.  He began his interest and devotion to the Lord in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  He works diligently in the service of the Lord with his wife, Pastor Carol A. Bishop.

In December 1987, Dr. Bishop became the Senior Pastor of Welcome Baptist Church in Hartford, Connecticut.  In June of 2001, he was elevated to the office of Bishop and was consecrated as Presiding Bishop over Macedonia International Fellowship.  In keeping with his vision to reach out and evangelize the people in the community and to teach the Word of God, Dr. Bishop studied at Philadelphia College of the Bible and New Life Bible Institute, both in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He received his Doctorate degree from United Christian College in New York.

Under Dr. Bishop’s leadership and through his God-given vision and hard work, Victory Cathedral’s new edifice was built in 2001.  Dr. Bishop has made major strides in growth and development by implementing a number of new ministries at Victory Cathedral.

Dr. Bishop’s commitment to building a better and more vigorous community is evident through his teaching and ministry.  He is immensely involved in the Hartford community, frequently attending council meetings, speaking at hearings and community gatherings.  He serves as an advisor to many community activities.  Dr. Bishop has held the position of President of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (IMA) of Greater Hartford.  He was the founder and chairperson of Welcome Community Development Corporation and mentor for the committee formed by the Housing Authority of Hartford for the Redevelopment of Bellevue Square.  He has also chaired the Regional Ministers Council with the New England Division of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  Another of his accomplishments is the Victory Cathedral Senior Housing Project which opened in the fall of 2010.

Dr. Bishop loves people and is a devoted servant of the living God.  This great man will be held with the highest level of intensity as he delivers the message for TODAY!
